Ontario pharmacy enquiries

Who can enquire?

Explore compounding quality

This page is for Ontario community pharmacies exploring an arrangement under the Ontario College of Pharmacists’ central-fill policy. Both participating pharmacies must be OCP-accredited. Please have your pharmacy’s contact and accreditation details available for the initial conversation.

The patient relationship

Your pharmacy remains the patient’s pharmacy.

In a central-fill arrangement, the originating pharmacy retains the patient relationship, prescription assessment, counselling, dispensing and follow-up. The central-fill pharmacy prepares and packages the prescription on the originating pharmacy’s behalf. The responsibilities of both pharmacies must be documented.

Before service begins

From enquiry to an agreed process.

  1. Discuss the proposed service

Call about the dosage form, preparation requirements and expected service needs. Specific formulations, capacity, pricing and timing require confirmation.

  2. Establish the working agreement

The pharmacies need a documented agreement covering scope and responsibilities: ordering, preparation checks, labelling, records, secure communication, transport, incident reporting and recalls. Applicable OCP notification requirements also need to be completed.

  3. Confirm patient-specific arrangements

Confirm the information needed for each prescription, privacy and consent requirements, and the secure submission channel. Please call before sending patient information.

  4. Coordinate supply to your pharmacy

Agree on transport and any storage or handling requirements. The originating pharmacy receives the preparation and provides the medication and patient care.

Information sharing

Privacy and patient choice.

The originating pharmacy must inform patients about the sharing of information for central-fill processing and how they can change, withhold or withdraw consent. PHIPA may permit reliance on implied consent within the circle of care when its conditions are met. Both pharmacies must protect information exchanged for the service.

Questions from pharmacy teams.

Call about the particular preparation and service your pharmacy is exploring.

Is this a prescription transfer to Custom Care?

The originating pharmacy remains responsible for dispensing and patient care under the central-fill arrangement. A patient’s request to transfer their prescription is a separate process.

Can you accept every compounded prescription?

Acceptance depends on the formulation, pharmacist assessment, available resources, applicable requirements and the agreed service scope. Contact us about the particular preparation before making arrangements with the patient.

Can pharmacies outside Ontario place an order here?

This enquiry route concerns Ontario central-fill arrangements. It does not confirm eligibility for pharmacies in other jurisdictions. Call to discuss a location-specific enquiry before sending prescription information.

Can we order stock without an individual prescription?

This enquiry page concerns patient-specific prescription support. It does not offer wholesale stock supply.
